Athletes & Teammates

ATHLETES:
Toledo TOPSoccer is a free program for any youth or adult athlete facing special cognitive, physical and/or emotional challenges, including those who are blind, confined to a wheelchair, and those who have autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, or other conditions that impair mobility, strength, and/or comprehension.

With a tremendous group of volunteers who guide our athletes on the field, participants are able to experience the game of soccer alongside other players in their peer group. Parents and family members who may have thought they would never see their athlete with different abilities playing and enjoying a sport and benefiting from the social opportunities that accompany it, get exactly that with Toledo TOPSoccer. It is a joy to see!

TEAMMATES:
One of the key parts of TOPSoccer are teammates who guide our athletes on the field.  Acting as a teammate to our participants allows them to experience the game of soccer alongside other players in their peer group.  Teammates are not restricted to GTFC players and their families, but you must be over 10 years old to volunteer.  This is a great way for players to "give back to this beautiful game," and area students can obtain service hours needed to meet school requirements through volunteering. Teammates are asked to arrive 15 minutes prior to the event start time.
